S4E26 - “…And Back”
WE KNOW WE FUCKED UP ABOUT DETROIT. WE ARE BAD AT GEOGRAPHY SORRY BESTIE.
We open with a guy in boots firefighter carrying a young woman through the woods.
And now the BAU is in the home of Dr. Turner - a man who is incapacitated and bedridden. He is Canadian and hooked up to a bunch of machines. Dr. Turner voice commands that 911 be called cause the BAU rolled in unannounced, but they’re like man, that wont be necessary.
Cut and we see the girl in the woods with the guy who snatched her. He like, puts her down?? And is looking around, so she just?? Gets up and runs away?? But she continues to scream while doing so! Girl if you don’t just be quiet. So he snatches her back pretty quickly. Girl. Prentis and Morgan are saying hi to the piggies, and Prentis is like “was that a scream?” Jeff, the cop, is really upset because Dr. Turner does not seem capable of being the unsub. Hotch is like, come, this fits the profile.
Morgan notices a handprint on a box-y thing next to the pigs – and it is a bloody handprint. He runs over to Hotch and is like – there is a box next to the pigs and it is full of nothing but bloody shoes! All different sizes - male and female. And he says there are about over 100 pairs of shoes in there.
Hotch and the rest of the team go over to investigate. Jeff is like, okay, so why just the shoes? Where are the bodies, and my boy Reid comes through with exactly what i was going to say “I don’t think there’s going to be any bodies, guys. Pigs are omnivores. They’ll eat anything. By anything, I mean…anything”.
Now Prentis uncuffs William, and asks him if he knows what kind of shoes she was wearing when she goes missing. Rossi goes to go talk to Dr. Turner. Hotch calls Garcia and says he needs her there to be immediately because he wants her to look into his laptop. Hotch also asks Reid how long it would take for the pigs to eat someone – he talks about how it would depend on the state of the body, but it wouldn’t be super quick. This means that Kelly is still alive, and is probably around somewhere.
Kelly wakes up and kind of yells at the guy who snatched her; however he seems very mentally challenged, and I don’t think he really understands what she is saying, and rather just matching her intensity? It is strange.
Rossi approaches Dr. Turner. Rossi is like, you know what we found, you know exactly what is out there. Rossi moves and covers a bunch of different mirrors that are all around the room, preventing Dr. Turner from seeing outside of the room/house. He also pulls the headphones off of Dr. Turner – which seems a little too far. He asks Dr. Turner how many victims there were, and asks where Kelly is, but Dr. Turner doesn’t say anything.
Now we see Kelly begging the man who snatched her to take her to a hospital because she thinks she has a concussion, and he just ignores her. Again. I don’t understand why she thinks she can negotiate with him. He says “Mason says no hospitals.” And then, now we have Dr. Turner say it was his brother, Lucas, who has done all of this “he is crazy”. He says that Lucas is the one who hurt him, and almost killed him.
The police roll up and the BAU plans what their moves are gonna be. Rossi tells them about what Dr. Turner said about his brother, and shows them a photograph of him. Rossi and Hotch are skeptical.
The next morning the police are there, and Garcia has also joined them. She starts looking into the computer, and the police begin trying to identify the shoes. The horribly bad actress who is the Detroit office rolls up. Ugh. she says she has 35 open missing persons cases, and Morgan is like “35???” cause apparently! They have 89 PAIRS OF SHOES. So far. Morgan calls her out on them not looking into William’s sister going missing because they are “throw away” kinds of people. She gets very defensive and tries to say they were undermanned, etc. it would be a profound scene if it weren’t for the fact that this actress SUCKS.
Hotch and Reid are talking about Mason’s brother. Reid says that apparently Lucas sleeps on the couch in the living room of the house, however he will sometimes go missing for days at a time. He doesn’t have his own room; which is kind of strange. Dr. Turner is very upset by the BAU taking his computer; this still feels wrong. Mason tells Rossi about how he saw his brother strangle a man so violently he had blood coming out of his eyes. Rossi is like, okay are you trying to scare me? And he’s like, you better find that girl!
We see the girl and Lucas in a little cabin with fairy lights. She tells him that his cellphone work work if they are underground, which it appears they are. We see Reid in a barn of sorts, he investigates a cage full of rats, and there are canyon drawings on the walls. This must’ve been where he hung out when he wasn’t in the house.
Now we see Morgan approach William. William is like, did you find something? And he hands William something? They have a moment about his sister missing, and how she somehow knew something bad was going to happen. He open his hands, and it is dog tags that Morgan handed him. Morgan goes up to Hotch and tells him he has to get out of there, he needs to join Prentis in the search party because he cant stand just standing around.
Reid tells Hotch that he has a hard time believing that Mason wouldn’t know his brother sleep in the barn, and he also says he does not believe that Lucas is psychotic. Hotch is like, why is that, and Reid says “there’s a collection of drawings up here that suggest autism or a learning disability. Now learning disabilities and psychosis in the exact same subject is exceedingly rare, its more likely he doesn’t understand the acts that he’s committed”. Additionally, there is nothing in the drawings to suggest the violence, however they do suggest that someone’s been watching him. He also says that Lucas is very childlike, and when they find him he’s gonna be scared and probably confused. He also says there is a chance he might fight when they find him. Hotch starts to walk away, and Reid is like “Hey Hotch? Do you ever have a feeling that a case isn’t going to end well?” And Hotch is just like “Reid, keep looking. This girl needs us”.
We see Kelly telling Lucas to go outside and keep walking around until he gets his call, to which he just absolutely beats the shit out of her. She freaks out and starts calling for her mother.
Now we see Morgan and Prentis walking through the woods. Morgan is upset about the number of killers who are out there just slaying people, and the fact that no matter what they do it will never end. They encounter a creek, and they are upset cause it means the dogs will probably lose the scent. Garcia starts looking into the computer; she very quickly sees something that upsets her, but we don’t get to see it.
Now we see Lucas trying to comfort Kelly. He says Mason says he always goes too hard. Its giving of Mice and Men. Kelly asks for his name, but Lucas is like, Mason says no names!
Garcia walks over to Rossi, looking absolutely shell shocked and says “they were doing experiments”, specifically unsuccessful ones. Apparently, these were experiments to try to “fix” Mason. But its okay! Because the people who they were doing this to were not useful to society! He goes on about how these people were going to be a part of something bigger and better, and how how would a jury believe he is capable of hurting anyone. William overhears this conversation.
Kelly is finally starting to make some progress with Lucas, he tells her his name and asks for some food. She plays the friends card. He leaves the underground home and starts looking for food for her. Hotch and Rossi and Reid chat; there is a good chance that Mason could possibly get away with this. Now Kelly is alone underground and tries to escape, but she cant get the roof hatch open.
The police dogs and search party is still out and about, and now Lucas is also out and about. We get a lot of shots of rabbits which continues to give of mice and men. The search party hears something, and they think it could be Lucas! Kelly is having an absolute meltdown in the basement. She finds a cellphone, and pockets it. Lucas comes back downstairs and barrels towards her, but then holds out his hands and is like “berries!”
The man they tackled is someone named Mr Lang. he says that everyone knows Lucas and he will probably be back any day now. They let Mr Lang go. Kelly tells Lucas that the berries are delicious, and she asks for some water. He tells her that they built this place to do hunting, and the barn is their home. He says he did not push Mason off the barn.
Cut and we now have Rossi asking Mason how he got hurt. He says that Lucas pushed him off the loft; he had wanted to sell the farm; he had just finished medical school and wanted to open a practice. He also says that Lucas has been taking care of him every day since. However, Rossi points out that Mason had said not to even try talking to Lucas when they found him, which suggests they just go ahead and shoot him. SO?? It sounds like he hates him! Mason also says that its a favor – Lucas could not survive without him.
Kelly tells Lucas she needs to use the bathroom, and he presents her with a bucket. She tells him that she needs to go outside, so he says okay. Lucas brings her outside, and she still ha that cellphone in her pocket. She says she needs privacy, and she comforts him saying she will be right back. Ugh! This is so challenging. She creeps behind a tree and turns the phone on. Garcia sees the phone is on, however it keeps saying that access is denied, she calls the system, and talks to Garcia. However, before she can give them much information, Lucas finds her on the phone and the call goes dead. They fight, and he brings her back into the underground place.
The FBI tries to find Kelly but she is underground now. Lucas tells Kelly he pushed Mason. However, Reid notices a lot of carvings on the trees that match the drawings, and they find the hatch to get underground. Kelly tells him to be good and not make and sudden moves. Now we also see William back at the farm grab a gun that was left behind, and he goes and shoots Dr. Turner.
The SWAT team also shoots Lucas, which I don’t think they had clearance to do!! We see Morgan yelling, but we had slow mo stuff going on, so we don’t know exactly what he said. We get a long voice over from Hotch talking about how even though they did everything right, it still feels like they failed. And so many lives were altered by just this.
We now see Hotch entering his home that night, and immediately going to pour himself a drink. However, someone enters from behind him, with a mask and pointing a gun at him. Its Foyet!
