S2E16 - “Fear and Loathing”
Open on a sleeping girl. She hears noise outside her room??? It looks as if she’s going somewhere. She climbs out of the window and starts walking the street. Its night and she sits on a bench - she’s waiting for someone. Its a guy. She’s like “KEN GO HOME” and he’s all “SANDRA WAIT”. She gets in his car - he wants to know where she’s going, but she says it is none of his business. Another car rolls up, and he approaches the car and is immediately shot in the chest. He dead af. She’s like “what are you doing that smy ex boyfriend!” to the guy in the car, he tells her to get in but she flees through the woods. mYSTERY MAN chases her - Hides in the dumbest way possible, gets punched.
Cut to the BAU, Prentis doesn’t want to talk about her personal life, but then tells Morgan she is worried she had a bad date. She’s all upset because she’s a “geek”. We learn that Morgan and Prentis both love Vonneget fan. Hotch breaks up their little “geeky” chat.
We learn that there may be a series of hate crimes going on. Three black girls have been killed with a swastika painted on their faces. This is in an affluent part of NYC. the neo nazis “the white stallions”. MGG is having flashbacks to the previous episodes. Gideon is saying if this doesn’t get stopped soon, it could escalate to a full “race war”.
They take the jet (hey girl) to the suburbs of NY. there is traces of date rape drugs in the girls systems, but no actual sexual assault. A few weeks before the murder of Sandra Davis, a threatening letter was sent to her home. Goobs talks about how the letter is written strangely - the royal we, and also “take care”. The point of hate crimes is to increase publicity, whereas the letter is saying not to share it anyway. He also says it is likely that a younger girl wrote the note. The autopsy on her was inconclusive.
Cut to Westchester NY and they meet Mayor Hughs. He says they haven’t had a murder in 2 years so it is “way above our heads”. Glasses man is worried about race riots. Apparently it is just way out of the norm to have murders in the area - the cops seem extremely incompetent especially for NY. Apparently they had talked to one girl who potentially could’ve done this, but they didn’t believe its her. Morgan insists on talking to her anyway. She apparently had a grudge against Sandra - her name is Tanya.
Cut and we see Gideon at the crime scene of the double homicide. We see the racist shit painted onto Sandra’s boyfriends car. Hotch does not believe that they had been on a date here - given how he was dressed causally and she was dressed up in a dress. The killer was focused on her and not him - it wasn’t a date with Ken, it was with the Unsub. Morgan begins talking to Tanya and talks about how its a federal crime for her to write a note like that. Prentis takes over and approaches Tanya in a much less hostile way than Morgan. She asks why Tanya was so angry with Sandra. Tanya admits that the talent show Sandra performed in was what upset her - she was just as good as Sandra and wanted the same amount of attention - she says it was not fair. So tanya wrote the note for revenge, but she only wanted to scare them, nothing else. Morgan believes she didn’t kill anyone.
We see Goobs sneak into the bathroom - he checks the stalls and then locks the door to the bathroom. He begins unraveling while staring at himself in the mirror and he pulls drugs out of his book bag, but before anything can happen he can hear someone calling for him. He runs into the office with the rest of the team. The talk about how there was a lot of overkill in this murders - there is no evidence of sexual assault on any of the victims. They realize that it is not a hate crime - but rather a serial killer. Cut and we see the unsub invite another black girl into his car - same bench/location, also at night. We see a news cast, and the community is calling the BAU out on how they only showed up after a white boy was collateral in the murder. They talk about how it is not a hate crime, but the unsub is trying to make it look as if it is a hate crime.
Cut and they go to visit Sandra’s family. They talk about how they thought the window in her room was painted shut - their other daughter tattles on her. This changes things because they just thought she randomly disappeared from the house. The victims both liked to sing and were good students. They realize this is a specific type - like to sing, 15-17, black. Unfortunately, there is another dead girl. Naomi - the girl we saw get into the car has been found dead.
Profile
A black male, between the ages 20 - 25
We know he is black because of his victims - sexually motivated killers almost always kill within their race
The victims he chooses are good girls, good students
“Low risk” - which makes the unsub have to be more intelligent and more charismatic - or at least, puts the girls at ease
A hustler - may not have a lot of education but knows how to trick these girls
Because all these girls are singers he may say he’s in the music industry
He has a car - big enough for a body but not flashy
Probably a large sedan
His rouse didn’t work on everybody so there is at least one girl out there
The key to his psychology is a souvenir he takes - we don’t know what that is yet though
Sandra Davis interrupted his ritual - something happened where he couldn’t take it so he may revisit her house
The mayor does not want to release the profile to the town - they say it will be racial profiling - a “dangerous black man”. He is saying he has never heard of a black serial killer, and neither has the town. This conversation is interrupted when they find Naomi's body. Morgan asks the detective what his call is gonna be (he is also black) - allow this “profiling” to happen, or potentially keep people safe by releasing the profile. They talk about how they need to connect to the community - talk to people. Prentis suggests talking to the kids who were at the talent show, and JJ sets up a tip line.
An officer talks about how he got a tip about a black man driving a black sedan driving around Davis’ house. They go to check in on it because this is the second sighting of this. Morgan and Detective Weir go to stake out this guy? Or the house? They talk about how racism/racial bias being a huge part of this is exhausting - even when the white people are trying to help. This scene is definitely written by white people.
The car shows up and they go zooming after it - Morgan pulls out a souped up gun - idk if this is normal for FBI. (fancy for cop). They circle the property that the unsub has parked at. Then they realize he just car service - and then well fuck. A white dude shoots the detective. He is like “we got them honey!” YAY RACISM. And the detective is FUCKING DYING. He races to call 911. Morgan has an excellent bedside manner. He is like “tell me about your kids”. But despite Morgan’s efforts..he dies. Super fast??? Sad :(
The BAU shows up and Hotch is like “what the hell happened” to the white dude, and he’s like “I was scared! I didn’t know he was a cop!”. Hotch is having none of it. “I have a family” “So did Detective Weir”. JJ calls Hotch and another girl is missing. Her name is Ellie Hadley; she told her mom she was sleeping over at a friends house, a good girl, she likes to sing and is 15 years old. A witness comes forward and says a black guy approaches her and said he worked for a record company. He gave her a business card - it didn’t even have a company name on it, just a name a phone number. But she says she didn’t even have to keep the card - she knows him.
They finally call on Garcia. She looks up Terrance Wakeland - he is a freelance musician who played keyboard for the school musical. He used to work for a recording studio, but they went “belly up” a few months ago. He now is a security guard. Cut and we see him driving Ellie to the studio. We see her singing in the studio. He is gassing her up and the NYC local birds are zooming over. He offers her some water and uhhh he is defying drugging that water. He continues to gas her up, and she is drinking the water, she is already starting to crash from the roofie.
He is like “are you alright?” NO BRO BECAUSE YOU DRUGGED HER. the vocal effects are killing me. He starts slapping her and is like “YOU THINK IM UGLY” she kicks him in the nuts and stumbles out - go Ellie! She is starting to really fall, and screaming for help outside on the street. The BAU rushes in - Hotch and Morgan specifically. It is dark and pretty empty; until Hotch stumbles upon the remains of where they were recording. The signs of a struggle. Morgan finds recordings of all the girls on CDs. Ellie stumbles and a COP tries to help her, but Terrance comes and is like “this is my cousin!” the officer is like “do you know this man?” but he plays it off. Thankfully before they can get too far, the FBI swarms.
Terrance is like “you think this is about those murdered girls?” Morgan insists all the guns be dropped and they detain him without a struggle. Cut to a funeral. Its the fucking detective - i thought this was for the girls. Im an idiot. Morgan and Prentis talk about growing up without a father - even if he died a hero. We’re back on the plane, and Prentis tosses Morgan a book - its Vonneget. Reid is out of it again. Morgan asks if he’s okay - but Reid tosses it off and is salty. Morgan is like “no one expects you to rebound” and Reid continues to be cagey about it. Saying he’s not gonna freak out. Eventually he says “its the crime scene photos...dead girls in the leaves”. Morgan is like “we’ve seen worse” and is like “I know we’ve seen worse...I know what they were thinking and I know what they were feeling like right before” Morgan tells him how its empty and its a good thing WHY ARE HIS NAILS SO LONG OH MY GOD. Morgan is like, let it make you a better person, a better profiler.
