S3E6 - “About Face”
We open with DUCKS. Little creek reservoir in VA. and we can see that Rossi is hunting with a dog. Cut and we see Rossi getting dressed up in a suit and tie and watch and ring for SOMETHING. We also see him take out his RETIED FBI badge, gun, and a charm? (the one from 14). He places this charm in his pocket and then we see him meeting with Strauss. She is confused about why he wants to go back to the BAU, especially since he will not be in a position of authority with the BAU. she begrudgingly says sure, and that’s that.
Now we are in Carrollton Texas, and we see an attractive lady arriving home. But on her front door is a printed piece of paper with a photograph of herself and it says “Have You Seen Me?” on it. She goes to the police, and the officer she is talking to blames it on Halloween pranks - since it is spooky season. He also says that his wife - this lady and his wife are clearly friends - shouldn’t have told her to talk to him, because obviously it is a prank and nothing to be worried about. He says he’ll check on her after work, but again its not important. And “serving and protecting is what i do” REALLY NOW?
Now we cut to him pulling up to her place after work, and he is on the phone with his wife. All the lights are out and he’s saying she probably went to bed early. He approaches the front food and there are more pictures - the same photo as before - on the front door, and the sink has been left on. He turns off the sink, but doesn’t turn on the light. He calls for Michelle, but she does not answer. He then walks into the living room (?) and there are dozens and dozens of the “have you seen me?” photos printed and placed around the house. Next there is a paper mask with “one” written on it on the table.
Next we are at the BAU and the department is kind of clowning around because its Halloween. Reid is the one who seems to be into it the most and YEAH BUD SAME. Morgan does not like Halloween. Rossi rolls in and they all get quiet and tense - they seem to not know how to act. Hotch is the only one who is particularly welcoming - calling him “Dave”. JJ calls Rossi and everyone in for a briefing, and Rossi is shook they have a jet.
JJ briefs them - we learn about Michelle and Carrolton. We are basically walked through what we already witnessed, and we learn that Michelle’s body was found floating in a creek, she had been sexually assaulted and her face has been literally removed. With a sharp instrument. Emily suggests that this unsub is a textbook sadist. They try to figure out what the mask could be symbolizing, but they do not have any strong ideas. The team is ready to depart for Texas. Back in Dallas, Texas, it is Halloween night and we see another woman find a “missing poster” of herself. She grabs her pug (same) and runs as there are dozens and dozens of these posters plastered up and down the fence on the street.
On the jet the team goes over the victimology. Michelle had been single, an architect and a workaholic. The idea of stalking also comes up, but nothing much more than that. Reid also talks about how masks often represent a state of mind, but the one that was left in Michelle’s home was blank, so that doesn’t really coincide with anger (stalking/fantasy). Garcia calls and has a list of all of Michelle’s clients. The team meets up with the bad police officer and tells them about how they have found another poster-case. The team splits up. Morgan and Prentis go to Michelle’s home, but they are confused since there isn’t really any coverage on the street - this unsub wouldn’t have been able to hide her .t hey conclude he could not have watched her from there.
We find out that the police officer (different, young, hot) did not know about the mask. They also said that she waked her dog every night at the same time - but where is the dog? Cut and we see Rossi and Reid walking to the creek in which she was found in. Reid is being a fan girl. The officer shows them the creek and the police officer finally is taking responsibility for the fact that he thought it was a prank. Rossi points out that she couldn’t have been in the water very long, even though there were rocks in her pockets. The unsub did not want her to be found. Morgan and Prentis realize that the unsub could have watched her from her garden situation going on, and from the looks of it, he’d been watching for a while.
Garcia also calls and says that the woman who received the poster is now purchasing a gun. The phone rings, and the woman calls - Enid White - she calls them out on not protecting Michelle. She is hiding out in a hotel. They BAU zoomies over, but she’s already gone. The posters are in the room and the mask is there. The cop was mad, but IT IS HIS FAULT. Especially since it only took them 20 min to get there. .the unsub intercepted the cellphone call to track her.(?) but they have faith she may still be alive since last time with Michelle he kept her alive for four days.
PROFILE - STALKER
He is a white adult male. Show size suggests he is 5’11’’ and 165lbs.
Patience and sophistication. Maturity. Mid 30s.
Michelle was held for 3 days - he probably has a house
Tech savvy - the posters, and a device to intercept the phone call from before.
He is average looking - nothing remarkable about him.
He is probably exceptionally average - he may feel overlooked.
But this man is probably raging and angry he is seen as average.
He may be arrogant, but he is not notable.
They decide to play on his anger, and not going public with the stuff. But all the sudden we can see that the mask is being talked about on TV. Rossi is like “oh yeah that was me, we told the FBI that we believe the mask suggests he is impotent. We see Rossi call Garcia and request the records of an original case - but not the one they are working on at the moment. He also asks that they keep it between them - for now. Hotch is ANGRY, because he does not believe that the team is ready to talk to them. Rossi is like “uh its fine”. Garcia has found that there is a connection between the two women. They were both involved in the same work building.
The phone rings and the unsub is angry that he’s been called impotent. We can see him and see that he works a cubicle office. Rossi pops off on the unsub a bit too much over the phone - calling him a loser. The unsub is angry and the rest of the team is also not super pumped with this little performance. The BAU zoomies over to the office building they called, but Rossi is confident that he will still be there, especially since he lied to the unsub about the security cameras working, etc. Hotch is not happy with Rossi - saying he forced their hand. But Rossi does seem to have it under control. The team swarms this office building lobby, but they’re only trying to interact with him not pounce. They display their credentials and mill & seeth through the crowed.
Reid and the Women are Weak and I Don’t Respect Them Cop find his cubicle and its cause he HAS THE PRINTED IMAGE on his DESKTOP OPEN. his name is Max Poole. Hotch and Rossi find him near the elevators. His back is to them and he has a gun. There is this dramatic moment in which Morgan almost gets shot, but Hotch and Rossi beat him and only Max Poole is shot. They find the address that Enid White has been being held at and she is rescued. And they just have a nice Texas Halloween.
At the end of the episode, back at the BAU we see Rossi go to his office with Hotch and, and Rossi calls Hotch out on not telling them that he and Hayley are separating. Rossi says “maybe i have unfinished business”
